Wolfsburg Signs Cleiton: Ex-Flamengo Defender Joins

  • Defender Cleiton, Flamengo’s promise, agrees pre-contract with Wolfsburg to reinforce defense

The information was initially released by the German newspaper Kicker and confirmed by GLOBO in October this year. Left-footed and 1.94 meters tall, Cleiton is treated internally as a future bet for Wolfsburg’s defensive system.

The club is looking for alternatives for the sector given the possibility of the departure of Greek Konstantinos Koulierakis, who has been attracting interest from major European teams, including Juventus.

The negotiation was conducted by Bertolucci Sports, the agency that represents the player and which also brokered the arrival of midfielder Vinicius Souza at Wolfsburg last summer. GLOBO found that former defender Naldo, an idol of the German club and currently an agent, acted directly in mediating the agreement.

— My role was as an intermediary, as I have a great relationship with clubs in Germany. I took the proposal to his manager, Giuliano Bertolucci, who played a fundamental role in building the business. I see a lot of potential in Cleiton — said Naldo.

Despite having had few opportunities in Flamengo’s professional team, Cleiton was always well evaluated internally for his physical profile and margin of evolution. In this season of the Brazilian Championship, he played in just two matches. Since his debut, in 2022, he has played seven games for the main squad.

The defender will arrive at Wolfsburg in January and will go through a period of adaptation before being permanently integrated into the main squad.
