Westbrook extends recordThe unique NBA king cannot save Sacramento
The Sacramento Kings are still unable to get back on their feet. NBA record player Russell Westbrook is playing big, but that’s not enough. Dennis Schröder is still out injured. Meanwhile, the San Antonio Spurs are providing the best entertainment.
The San Antonio Spurs and the New Orleans Pelicans provided great entertainment even without their two biggest stars in the NBA. Without the injured Victor Wembanyama, the Spurs first gave up a 20-point lead, only to ultimately win 135:132 against the New Orleans Pelicans, who had to do without top player Zion Williamson. For the Pelicans it was the 22nd defeat in the 25th game of the season. No team in the NBA has a worse record.
Meanwhile, Russell Westbrook consolidated his position as number one in NBA history with the 207th triple-double of his career, but suffered another defeat with the Sacramento Kings. Without national team captain Dennis Schröder, the team from the Californian capital lost 105:116 to runner-up Indiana Pacers.
Westbrook had 24 points, 14 assists and twelve rebounds; the 37-year-old leads the list ahead of the legendary “The Big O” Oscar Robertson (181) and Nikola Jokic from the Denver Nuggets (175). In addition to the Serb, four other active players are in the top 10: LeBron James (122/5.), Luka Doncic (both Los Angeles Lakers/84/7.), James Harden (Los Angeles Clippers/82/8.) and Domantas Sabonis (Sacramento/68/10.).
World and European champion Schröder was missing again due to hip problems; the point guard has not played since November 24th and has now missed six games. Sacramento led a good five minutes before the end (101:100), but then let the Pacers around top scorer Andrew Nembhard (29 points) pull away. The Kings are third to last in the West, the Pacers (both 6:18) are second to last in the East.
