Wesley Plaisier has received a lot of messages after his victory over Gerwyn Price. Joey Veerman, among others, congratulated the darts player, who was unfortunately also the center of ridicule on social media several times in the past week.
The surprising World Cup victory generated a lot of attention for Plaisier, who afterwards could hardly keep track of everyone who sent him a message. In a conversation with Sportnieuws.nl he says he is overwhelmed by the amount of responses. “My phone really exploded after the match. I had never experienced anything like that,” he said.
Among the many congratulations was also a personal message from PSV midfielder Veerman, while Plaisier is known as a Feyenoord supporter. “I even had a message from Joey Veerman,” said the darts player. “It’s really nice that he sends a message.”
Not all reactions were positive. Plaisier also faced negative comments about his appearance on social media. The darts player tries to pay as little attention to this as possible. “I try to close myself off from it. It doesn’t interest me at all,” he concludes.
