Weiss on Slovan Exit: ‘I’ll Resign if I’m the Issue

Coach Vladimír Weiss (61) admitted that he could end up on the bench for Slovan Bratislava. He will decide after a conversation with club owner Ivan Kmotrík Sr. (66), the experienced coach said after the Slovak champions lost to Škendija Tetovo 0-2 in the 5th round of the Conference League in North Macedonia and lost their chances of advancing to the knockout stage.

Slovan lost the third competitive game in a row. In the domestic competition, he lost to Ružomberok and Košice, after the defeat against Škendija, he has only three points in the table of the league stage of the Conference League for the victory over Vallecano. “I’m not going to hold on here tooth and nail. Ivan Kmotrík Sr. and I agreed to have coffee after the season (after the end of autumn). We’ll see. Anything can happen, today or tomorrow. I’m ready for anything.” he declared after the match that was played in Skopje.

The former Slovakia and Georgia national team coach added that he feels a responsibility, but football is ultimately about the quality of the players. “If the problem is with me, I will leave. If not, we have to accept that some players may not be up to it. In Slovan, you have to know where you play and what your responsibilities are. No one is giving us anything.”

Slovan fell from the qualification of the Champions League to the league stage of the Conference League. He didn’t succeed in that either. “It was a surrendered performance from our side. This is reality, not a crisis, it is a question of the current situation. We have a lot of injured players, which is not an excuse, but a reality. Football is about movement, Škendija simply has more mobile players. We practically didn’t get a shot on goal. The whole offensive game of the team is very weak, we don’t have quality towards the end,” pointed out Weiss.

Already on Sunday, Belasé has a key match for the title of autumn champion against Žilina. In the last game of this year, they will welcome Häcken at home, with no chance of advancement. “We have to focus on Žilina. They are an opponent who will outplay us if we don’t run honestly. We have to analyze everything well and make better decisions in the future – players, coaches and officials. That’s the only way Slovan can go in the right direction,” emphasized Weiss.
