Waste to Art: Yutian Center’s Innovative Labor Education

Recently, our school’s handicraft club held a unique labor education practice class. Under the guidance of the teacher, the students reprocessed various sporting goods that were lost or eliminated during daily training into creative works of art, vividly interpreting the concept of “labor creates beauty”. This course focuses on “green recycling” and “creative practice” and guides students to discover new value in ordinary items. All materials come from “retired” materials in the school’s sports equipment room: worn badmintons, cracked table tennis balls, broken rackets, faded basketballs, broken ropes… In the hands of the students, these items that would have been discarded take on new life.

Under the leadership of two teachers, Liu Minghui and Feng Dongxue, the students collaborated in groups to explore the creative possibilities of different materials. They sorted, cut, and pasted the feathers of badminton, and used clever compositions to create delicate, flexible, and layered “feather paintings”; the skins of old basketballs and footballs were skillfully cut and combined with other materials to reshape them into lifelike seven-star ladybugs and cartoon doll receptacles; medicine balls were transformed into spherical three-dimensional small landscapes under the students’ brushes, which was full of elegance and interest. For racket equipment, the mesh structure of the badminton racket becomes a natural canvas frame. Students “embroider” on the racket net to create unique “racket embroidery paintings”; the badminton racket becomes the best drawing board, a small space that contains the colorful world in the eyes of painters; the table tennis racket carries the traditional filigree craft, and its exquisiteness is amazing.

“I didn’t expect that these things that we usually think are useless after training can become so beautiful!” A classmate showed his work excitedly. “This process not only exercises patience, but also makes me understand that everything has its value. The key lies in how we discover and create.” The instructor said that this activity It is a successful attempt to integrate labor skills, environmental awareness, aesthetic education and innovative thinking. It focuses on guiding students to understand the labor spirit of thrift and hard work through hands-on practice, experience the sustainable development concept of resource recycling, and at the same time stimulate their artistic creative potential and enhance teamwork capabilities.

At present, some outstanding works have been exhibited at the “Rebirth Notes” handicraft workshop of the County Sports Art Work Site, and have received unanimous praise from the visiting leaders. This “Rebirth” theme labor class allowed students to harvest skills and works in creation, and sowed the seeds of respecting labor, loving creation, and cherishing resources in their hearts, showing the ingenuity and innovation of vocational high school students in the new era.
