Washington made its second in-state commitment today early in the 2027 cycle when Graham-Kapowsin HS defensive back Maurice Williams committed to the Huskies.
Williams is 6’2 and 190 pounds (per his HUDL page) and is currently ranked as the No. 6 athlete in the state of Washington for 2027 and the No. 433 regular according to the 247 Sports Composite. That puts it at a rating of 0.8811, which is almost nowhere near the 0.89+ that marks four-star status. Washington also has the commitment of four-star WR Braylon Pope, who is currently the state’s highest-rated athlete. Williams committed to the Huskies over offers from Arizona State, BYU and Boise State, among others.
Announcement
Williams won the DB MVP award at the Under Armor 2026 camp in Utah in May, which featured numerous high-quality players in the 2026 and 2027 classes. At the time they noted that he had great distance and fluidity, which gave him great advantage when he went from being more of a safety to an outside edge.
Washington currently has a shaky secondary that is moving close to the future, which will present opportunities for younger players. Washington will replace both outside cornerbacks next season, although one spot will almost certainly go to Dylan Robinson. The Huskies took 5 DBs in the 2026 class who will be looking for gear time and Williams has the Dawgs making a strong showing in 2027.
Here are highlights from Williams’ sophomore year when he played at Yelm HS (just-completed junior season not fully up to speed yet)
