Vietnamese Badminton: SEA Games 33 Controversy

On December 7, Vietnamese badminton made its official entry into the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in the women’s team event.

Despite their best efforts, the Vietnamese badminton team lost 1-3 to Malaysia and was eliminated. Nguyen Thuy Linh was the only player to win a match.

In the first set, Thuy Linh lost 15-21 to Karupathevan Letshanaa (the number 1 of the Malaysian women’s team). In the second set, the Vietnamese took the advantage and won 21-10. In the deciding set, Thuy Linh played with great confidence and won 23-21.

In the final, Thuy Linh won 2-1 against Karupathevan Letshanaa.

However, Vu Thi Trang, Tran Thi Dieu Ly – Pham Thi Khanh pair and Bui Bich Phuong lost 1-2, 0-2 and 0-2 in the following matches.

Notably, after the match, tennis player Nguyen Thuy Linh expressed her frustration with the refereeing during her victory against Karupathevan Letshanaa.

The Vietnamese women’s tennis number one expressed her opinion: “I was very frustrated when, while I was defending every point against the Malaysian athlete, the referee made wrong decisions. If I had the right to object, I would have done so. »

On two occasions my opponent sent the shuttlecock out of court several times, but the referee judged it to be in court. In another situation, I was hesitant about the validity of my shot, but the referee ultimately concluded that it was out of court. I think he showed some bias in favor of my opponent.

Furthermore, the head coach of the Vietnamese badminton team, Ngo Trung Dung, was also not satisfied with the referee’s decisions.

Coach Ngo Trung Dung said: “Thuy Linh played well in the first match, and as you can see, Vu Thi Trang also put in a lot of effort in the second match. Trang unfortunately lost. Indeed, during this match, the referee made many wrong decisions, at least four or five situations which cost Trang unfair points. »
