Max Verstappen would normally have shown himself during the FIA gala in Uzbekistan. The 28-year-old driver finished second in the world championship, and the top three are expected to make an appearance at the gala. However, the Dutchman called in sick.
Verstappen did win prizes, as he won the Action of the Year award in the ‘Formula 1’ category. And at the end of the evening he appeared again, because Verstappen made himself heard in a video message.
“Hello everyone, Max here. I am very sorry that I cannot be with you tonight. The doctors have banned me from flying. I would first like to congratulate our President, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, on his re-election. I am sure we are all in for an exciting time. Once again, congratulations.”
“I would also like to congratulate all the winners. I know that everyone always works very hard for their success. So be proud and of course enjoy the evening.”
“In addition, in my own championship, I would like to congratulate McLaren, and especially Lando Norris. You have had an incredible season and it was really cool to be able to race against you to the end. Most of all, enjoy it!” Verstappen concludes with the following message. “Take care of yourself, have a nice evening and see you in 2026. Bye, bye.”
