Verhaeghe & Football: A Reality Check

The decision of the Club Brugge board to replace coach Nicky Hayen with Ivan Leko has already caused quite a stir. Former coach and current analyst Johan Boskamp has his own opinion and has little understanding for the decision – and the subsequent reaction – of chairman Bart Verhaeghe.

Verhaeghe recently emphasized that Club Brugge should be higher, with more points on the counter. According to him, Nicky Hayen should also be especially grateful to Club Brugge that he was given his chance as head coach.

However, Johan Boskamp has his reservations about the change of coach and the reaction afterwards. “What Verhaeghe said about the dismissal stood like a flag on a shit disc. He thought Hayen should be grateful to him. I would think just the opposite,” said Boskamp at The Importance of Limburg.

“He has given them a title, a cup and great European nights,” the analyst continues. “Verhaeghe should really not think that he invented football. It remains a game. A minimum of respect for his fellow man would suit the man.”

In episode 20 of the second season of Tijd voor Voetbal, the convincing victories of STVV and KVC Westerlo are discussed. Club Brugge, Union and RSC Anderlecht not winning and is there a goalkeeper problem at KRC Genk? That and much more in Time for Football.
