The indoor football tournament in the village of Preseľany became famous, but not in a positive sense. It was due to the unsportsmanlike behavior of representative Denis Vavro.
A video appeared on the Internet where he got into a conflict with an opponent. It did not leave the audience cold and they also expressed their emotions with vulgarisms.
The native of Partizánske didn’t like that, he took off his jersey and wanted to go to the stands. Finally, he invited someone from the viewpoint to come to him and hand it out briefly.
Later, another video saw the light of day, where the representative can be seen slapping one of the spectators. It was supposed to be a 17-year-old boy.
According to the profile entitled “I love football”, the young man commented on the whole situation as follows: “During the opening matches, our players (aged 17, 18) did various tricks and tricks. According to several people present, Vavro responded to these situations by threatening to break his legs.
One of the players asked him whose legs he wanted to break. Vavro then grabbed him by the neck and had to be restrained by other persons to calm down the situation.”
Later, Vavro apologized for his actions through the spokeswoman of the Slovak Football Association (SFZ), Monika Jurigová. He met the young man personally and gave him his national team jersey. They explained everything and concluded the matter amicably.
However, this does not mean that the SFZ Disciplinary Commission will not investigate the incident. “We condemn the inappropriate and unacceptable behavior of Denis Vavro at the Christmas indoor tournament in Preseľany, which was contrary to the status of a representative.
The disciplinary commission will decide on possible consequences,” said union spokesman Juraj Čurný for the website sportovy.cas.sk.
In the statute of the representative of the Slovak Republic in football, it is written that the player should refrain from any action that could harm the good name of SFZ, its members, the national team and partners.
Anyone who violates this in any way can inadvertently say goodbye to the national team for up to 24 months. It will probably be a matter of the next few days or weeks for them to decide on the defender’s future in the national team.
The German Wolfsburg player has recovered from his injury. As long as he is in shape, the coach of the Slovak national team, Francesco Calzona, will probably not leave him out of the nomination for the play-off for advancement to the World Championships.
Of course, only if he does not receive a ban from the SFZ Disciplinary Commission. This would be an unusual situation before important matches of the national team.
In March, a two-round playoff awaits the Slovaks to advance to the World Cup 2026. In case of domestic success against Kosovo, Slovakia will face the better of the pair, Turkey and Romania. The winner will advance to the 2026 WC in North America.
