The first dangerous chance came from Fluminense. In a play with quick touches, Samuel worked with Everaldo, who launched Serna deep. The Colombian found a pass for Lucho Acosta, facing the goal, to finish out. The move lit up Tricolor, who began to dominate the game from then on.
Even though it was difficult to penetrate the rival defense, Vasco responded in the 15th minute. After recovering the ball in the attacking field, Puma received the inverted ball and covered Fábio’s exit, but Thiago Silva made the crucial cut. In the counterattack, Flu rose quickly with Everaldo, who was fouled by Léo Jardim at the edge of the area, punished with a yellow card. On the charge, in a rehearsed play, Tricolor opened the scoring: Renê looked for his captain, who moved to the middle of the area for Kevin Serna to hit.

At 35, Fernando Diniz’s men began to react based on Flu’s mistakes. After recovering the ball in the attacking field, Nuno Moreira opened with Cauan Barros, on the right, who crossed the ball to the outside. The chance created a moment of pressure for Vasco, who had corners afterwards and managed to retain more possession. At 45, Andrés Gomez would have suffered a penalty from Freytes, but the player was offside at the beginning of the play. In stoppage time, the number 11 again appeared well in attack but after a bad cut by Thiago Silva, he shot over Fábio’s goal.
Needing the result, Vasco came back intense after the break. After just 5 minutes, after a play from the left, Nuno’s low cross found Rayan free to equalize the score and lift the Vasco fans at Maracanã. Inspired by the “turnaround team” chant, Andrés Gomez had a dangerous chance, but stopped after a good save from Fábio.
Cruz-Maltino grew with the goal and the strength emanating from the stands, while Fluminense tried to get back into the match. As Setor Sul increased the sound, the team began to occupy the attacking field, but did not pose any danger to Léo Jardim’s goal.
Vasco, in turn, threatened again with a header from Pumita, who hit the post and scored a goal kick. Amidst the opponent’s superiority, Flu got their first chance of the second half with Keno’s shot for a safe save by the Vasco goalkeeper. In stoppage time, Vegetti, who came on in the second half, turned the game around for Cruz-Maltino.
