The chance that you know Märten Pajunurm is rather small. The Estonian central defender is finally hanging up his football boots after a long career that mainly took place in his own country. And with one very striking moment.
Märten Pajunurm is a 32-year-old central defender. This season he scored seven goals in Estonia, but he previously indicated that it would be his last year in football and so he will officially retire on January 1 according to Transfermarkt.

During his career he played a few years in the United States, where he played for the Longwood University Lancers for a few years. However, he only played in the Estonian league.
The youth product of top club FC Flora played the lion’s share of his career for Kuressaare, the team with which the former Estonian promising international will now also end his career at the end of 2025.
He was perhaps best known for a striking red card that he received last year after a VAR moment. The images of that incident went around the world because they were so striking.
In his team’s match visiting Flora, there was a VAR check after Kuressaare’s 1-1. After which the VAR and arbitration decided to disallow Pajunurm’s goal. He immediately showed a double middle finger and the rest is history…
