Van Aert & Van der Poel: Christmas Wishes & Traditions

A Merry Christmas to everyone! It is also Christmas Day for Wout van Aert and Mathieu van der Poel as cycling tops.

Wout van Aert appears at the beginning and end of a Red Bull Belgium video on Instagram. That is of course no coincidence: Van Aert is one of the series of top players sponsored by Red Bull. Although he rides for Visma-Lease a Bike, he wears a Red Bull helmet in every race. That makes him recognizable in the peloton.

In the video we see a whole series of Red Bull top athletes, to the sounds of the well-known song We wish you a merry Christmas. The athletes in question share their Christmas wishes by … simply opening a can of Red Bull. That may figuratively give them wings, as the well-known slogan of the energy drink from 1987 says.

Van Aert expresses Christmas wishes

At the end of the video, Van Aert utters the magical words: “Merry Christmas!” Since it is the Christmas period, Van Aert is currently mainly active in the field. The same applies to his sporting rival Mathieu van der Poel. The Dutchman was recently asked after one of the crosses how exactly he would celebrate Christmas.

Van der Poel’s answer was actually not surprising. “I’m not going to do anything special. I’m just going to have something to eat with the family. That’s all.” It is now common knowledge that Van der Poel does not attach importance to doing many extraordinary things during the holidays, whether it is Christmas or New Year.

Although eating with the family is special, because not everyone has the opportunity to experience the holidays in the presence of loved ones. It is a period that revolves around togetherness and that includes dining with the family. We wish that for everyone.
