Union Neuchâtel has a huge appetite! The Neuchâtel Swiss Basketball League club had a perfect English week. He won 87-81 on Saturday evening on the floor of BBC Monthey. On Wednesday, he defeated Pully – Lausanne in the quarter-finals of the SBL Cup, while a week ago he had already achieved an explosive success against Friborg Olympic. And above all, in all competitions, Chad Timberlake’s squad achieved a ninth success in a row, seven in the championship, one in the SBL Cup as well as one in the Swiss Cup.
Saturday in Monthey, everything was not easy. Led by its two shock Americans, the small distributor Steve Robinson and the powerful Kendrick Tchoua, the Valais club made life difficult for the Unionists throughout the entire evening.
The Neuchâtelois led the score from the start of the second quarter, but they never managed to widen a gap of more than seven points: “Monthey started the match with a lot of energy. Maybe we thought it would be simpler. It was a mistake” analyzes Brendan Favre, voted best player on his team. Against his former club, he scored 29 points, including 22 before the break. The hero of the match!
Union Neuchâtel therefore never stops winning. And yet, the squad for this team was formed very late, following the uncertainty linked to obtaining the playing license. This is perhaps what encouraged the players to stick together: “The solidarity that we have built since the start of the season constitutes our strength. There, I really think we are a great team. If one of us has a less good match, another will replace him,” says David Vuckovic
At mid-championship, Union Neuchâtel occupies third place in the standings, only two points behind the Geneva Lions, who are second.
Chad Timberlake’s squad will play its next match on January 3 on the Starwings Basket court. /mne
