Union Neuchâtel created a sensation on Saturday at home in the Swiss Basketball League. In front of more than 1,000 spectators at the Salle de la Riveraine, the unionist team inflicted its first defeat of the season on Friborg Olympic. Chad Timberlake’s squad defeated the championship leader 79 – 74.
Less than three minutes from the end of the second quarter, Union Neuchâtel had a maximum advantage of 18 points. At the break, it was twelve units. And yet, the Unionists could have lost everything following the awakening of the Freiburg ogre.
Thibaut Petit’s players indeed came back strong after tea, scoring 30 points in the third quarter to lead by a length after 30 minutes. But Chad Timberlake’s young troupe showed a lot of composure to make the difference in the ‘money-time’. American leader Justin Hill, who scored 10 of his 24 points in the last quarter, was decisive.
In the Swiss Basketball League rankings, Union Neuchâtel further strengthens its third place with six points behind Friborg Olympic and four behind the Geneva Lions. /mne
