Union Injury Update: Key Player Out Weeks

Union beat Zulte Waregem 2-0 last weekend and scored another satisfying three-pointer. In the previous weeks the leader had not gotten further than a two out of nine, which caused some doubts to arise.

Especially because there are still unpleasant weeks ahead for the people of Brussels. Not only do they have to get back to work after the winter break, they will also have to miss some strong players in the coming matches.

Union still has to miss Niang

Against Essevee, for example, Union had to make do without Adem Zorgane, who had already left to join the Algerian selection for the Africa Cup. Now at the last minute they see a second titular player heading to the tournament.

Ousseynou Niang also made a selection at the last minute. The 24-year-old was still included in the Senegalese selection. He is the replacement for Assane Diao, the Como winger who had to withdraw due to an injury.

Debut for Senegal at Africa Cup?

It is of course a nice reward for Niang. Eighteen months after he was plucked away from Latvian Riga FC by Union, he can make his debut for Senegal. Earlier this season he was called up once, but he did not get any playing minutes. Perhaps that will be different when the defending champions open their Africa Cup of Nations against Botswana on Tuesday.

Niang’s temporary departure is of course a loss for Union, because he is the regular starter on the left flank. For example, there may be opportunities for Louis Patris on Boxing Day against Cercle Brugge.
