TV: Hävelid Banner Response – Network Statement

The petting of Valter Lindberg from the JVM squad has caused reactions in Skellefteå. Now the national team captain responds after the banner with the words “Fuck Hävelid”.
– That’s what fans should do, he told hockeysverige.se after the 4-2 victory against Switzerland.

“For us you always place, fuck Hävelid”

When Skellefteå met Djurgården at the same time as Sweden played its second JVM match, this was the message that you could read on the banner from the home side. The background was that Valter Lindberg was kicked from the JVM squad at the last moment, at Christmas, and had to go home to Sweden. Something that was met with a whole range of reactions on social media.

After the 4–2 match against Switzerland, the Swedish national team captain then gave his answer.

– I was told that. As the home crowd, they support Valter in this case. That’s what they should do too. I don’t think more than that. They show appreciation for their own business and their own player. That’s what fans should do, he tells hockeysverige.se.

You don’t feel like you need to defend your decision?
– No, not really. There is always someone who wants more explanations, but we have made our choice based on what happened over here, and are safe with that. Then there are never any easy decisions. It is part of this business that is the elite sport.

How many messages have you received on your phone?
– I haven’t looked at my phone here, so I fit that question, says Hävelid with a laugh.
