TSV Neubiberg lost both games on the last double match day. Now the bottom team is threatened with relegation from the regional league.
Gloomy prospects for badminton regional league team TSV Neubiberg: After the 3:5 defeats at ESV Flugelrad Nürnberg and TSV Diedorf, the team enters the second half of the season as bottom with 2:16 points. “So at the end of the first half of the season we are left with the worst possible result; we only won one game,” says captain Lennard Hewelt, worried about the future. “The frustration is now clearly reflected in the team and it remains to be seen whether we can even hope to stay in the regional league after this disastrous performance.”
Because on the last double match day of the year, the Neubibergers came away empty-handed against two opponents who are more likely to be among the beatable competitors. However, it was definitely close. In Nuremberg, Gregory Schneider and Daniel Schütz scored points in their singles, as did the women’s doubles Maya Höfle/Verena Beil. The men’s doubles Schütz/Patrick Fischer as well as Hewelt and Beil in the singles had to admit defeat 1:2 in the deciding set. The mixed Fischer/Höfle also had a close match. Almost exactly the same picture occurred in Diedorf. Once again Höfle/Beil, Schneider and Schütz were successful, again Schütz/Fischer and Hewelt only lost after the third set.
The current level is not enough
However, Hewelt cannot draw real confidence from the tight course: “Unfortunately, we only have one thing left for the second half of the season: train, train, train! The current level is definitely not enough to be able to stay in the league. The only bright spot are the women, who at least bring us points relatively consistently.”
There shouldn’t be much to gain for the Neubibergers on the first day of the second half of the season either: on Saturday, January 17th (4 p.m.), they go to fourth place TSV Niederwürschnitz, and a day later, on Sunday, January 18th (11 a.m.), they go to second place HSG DHfK Leipzig.
