Trapani Shark: Sports Fraud & Potential Outcomes

The story relating to the new penalization of Trapani Shark and the inhibition of the president Valerio Antonini is covered by several newspapers on newsstands today.

Yesterday the Federal Court penalized the Sicilian club by 3 points in the standings with a two-year ban on Valerio Antonini. The “crime” is sports fraud, the reference to the accusation of false declarations “regarding the actual fulfillment of payments due to the Treasury” as reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport.

In La Repubblica we read: “yesterday’s sentence risks opening up an irreversible crisis, with the increasingly probable backdrop of the exclusion of Trapani from the championship”.

La Gazzetta dello Sport: “A development that once again jeopardizes the future of Trapani, after on Sunday the sporting director D’Orta had feared the possibility of not showing up for the next championship match in Bologna… a further file is open on the possible double contract (i.e. registered with two different figures) of a registered athlete”.

Sports Fraud will also be the topic of next week’s issue, again for Trapani Shark. Here the false declaration would be “on the payment of all the honors and debts with which she declared herself to be in compliance at the time of registration for the championship, which risks being judged to be non-compliant”.

And not only that: “a further file is open on the possible double contract (i.e. registered with two different numbers) of a registered athlete”.
