The first definition of the case in court came in September — the STJD removed six points from União-TO, which decreed its relegation. The body also decided to hold a new semi-final to decide who would face Araguaína in the final.
The decision was changed later. In a new trial, the STJD understood that there was an excessively strict penalty, and only three points were removed from União-TO, which managed to avoid falling. The new semifinals and finals were maintained.
The whole mess was caused by the field of notes where the match referee had signaled defender Sheik’s yellow card. in the game against Araguaína, in the first phase — that was his third. He wrote down in the “warnings” space and stopped putting it in the “penalty notice”.
The new semi-finals and finals began to be played this December. As they were the finalists in the games that were cancelled, Araguaína was kept in the decision. In the semi-final, Tocantinópolis, which had lost to União-TO in March, was maintained, faced Gurupi and advanced to the final.
The first game of the new final was played on the 27th. Araguaína won the match 2-1, playing at home.
The second decisive duel will be held today, at 4pm (Brasília time). Away from home, Araguaína depends only on a draw to become champion against Tocantinópolis.
