Thuy Linh’s Win Not Enough: Vietnam Falls to Malaysia in Badminton

The badminton events of the 33rd Southeast Asian Games take place from December 7 to 14 and include 7 competitions: men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, mixed doubles, men’s team, women’s team.

In the first round, the team faced Malaysia for a place in the semi-finals. From the first singles, Vietnamese number one, Nguyen Thuy Linh, made a superb comeback to win 2-1 against Karupathevan Letshanaa.

However, in the second singles match, veteran tennis player Vu Thi Trang lost 1-2 to Wong Ling Ching.

In the next doubles match, Pham Thi Dieu Ly/Pham Thi Khanh lost 0-2 to Pearly Tan/Thinaah Muralitharan. Then, Bich Phuong lost 0-2 to Siti Zulaikha in the fourth singles match.

Beaten 3-1 by Malaysia, the Vietnamese women’s team lost the opportunity to reach the semi-finals and win a medal. However, she will have to compete in the men’s and women’s singles, as well as the mixed doubles, in the coming days.

At the 33 Southeast Asian Games, in addition to female players, Vietnamese badminton also has two male players, Le Duc Phat and Nguyen Hai Dang.
