Thùy Linh & Đức Phát: First Round Exit | Badminton Update

In her opening women’s singles match, fourth-seeded Nguyen Thuy Linh took on Indonesian Ni Kadek Dhinda Amartya, a 19-year-old opponent ranked 82nd in the world.

In the first set, Thùy Linh let her younger opponent open the score, after which the two fought an exciting battle until the score was 8-8. Just when she needed to take the lead, she let Amartya take advantage of her speed and lead to 15-9. Thùy Linh refused to accept this deficit and fought back strongly, repeatedly scoring points to reduce the deficit, before making an impressive comeback to win the set 21-16.

In the second set, the psychological advantage shifted to Thùy Linh, as her opponent repeatedly hit the shuttle out of bounds, giving her points in the first half. However, as the match progressed, the Indonesian player regained her confidence and took a 20-18 lead.

In a tight position, Thùy Linh rallied to save the match point and make the score 20-20. It looked like she would decide the match in just two sets, but Amartya’s decisive move at the crucial moment saw Thùy Linh lose 20-22.

At the start of the deciding set, both players continued to put up a close battle, with the scores close and neither managing to gain a lead of more than 2 points. However, Amartya’s youthful energy and persistent attacks caused Thùy Linh to show signs of fatigue. Mistakes late in the match forced her to a 14-21 defeat in the third set.
