Last Sunday we could all see how Thibau Nys was able to make a real match against Mathieu van der Poel for the first time. A small slide ultimately prevented him from really competing for the win. This was much to the pride of father Sven, who also had less news.

Sven Nys suddenly sows doubt about Thibau: “Making decisions”
Tinkering with the calendar
The busy Christmas period is coming, after what we witnessed on Sunday everyone is hoping for a few more exciting duels with Nys in a leading role. But Sven wants to temper expectations a bit. Will he compete for victories every week?
“That really depends from course to course. I think Thibau will continue to show regularity, if he can remain healthy. He has returned from training very well. But deliver this every week? I don’t think so,” Nys Sr told Wielerflits. “There are possibilities. For example, Diegem is a cross that suits him well. We are also working towards the Belgian championship in Beringen.”
This will also require hard decisions to be made. For example, Nys says that Thibau will have to skip some matches: “We are in a Christmas period that is still far too busy, so we have to skip matches every now and then. Which is also a shame, these are decisions that we have to make even further in the coming days,” it sounds unfortunate.

Proud father
But an achievement like that in Namur is of course very encouraging. It shows the steps Nys Jr has made: “He has now become more mature. Not only the way he races, but also how he takes a position and can handle the pressure. He has never been able to do that in Namur.”
“Thibau is also the leader in the World Cup. His regularity is much greater than the previous names. Every year he adds a little progress. I can only go home very satisfied. It is a process that you are involved in and that is nice to follow,” father Sven also showed himself to be a satisfied man.
