Thiago Silva: World Cup Dream Continues | Fluminense News

Fluminense defender Thiago Silva gave an interview this Saturday (13) to France Football magazine. He discussed the end of his career. At 41 years old, the experienced defender admitted that retirement is close. Even so, he still shows hope of being called up by the Brazilian team for the 2026 World Cup.

“Yes, it was a bit premeditated (signing with Fluminense until the middle of 2026). I haven’t been called up since the 2022 World Cup, but I thought it wasn’t impossible. That’s why I signed for two years with Fluminense, to try to play in the World Cup”, the defender confessed to France Football magazine.

Thiago has an impressive CV. He won the Champions League with Chelsea and had important spells with Milan and PSG. The defender returned to Fluminense in mid-2024. He remains a key player for the club. The athlete keeps alive his ambition of ending his football career wearing the Seleção shirt in glorious fashion.

“Can you imagine if I ended my career with a world champion title? It would be an absolute dream and the perfect time to stop,” said the defender.

Meanwhile, the player’s immediate focus is on Fluminense. This Sunday, the team faces Vasco in the second and decisive game of the Copa do Brasil semifinal. After losing the first match 2-1, Fluminense needs a victory by one goal to decide the spot on penalties, or by a margin of two or more goals to advance directly to the final.
