Thiago Silva: Fluminense Exit & European Return?

As reported by the Brazilian press, the former PSG captain, aged 41, will leave the Rio de Janeiro club.

Thiago Silva and Fluminense, it’s over. Under contract until next June at the Rio de Janeiro club, the former captain of Paris Saint-Germain had an agreement which allowed him to leave this winter for personal reasons. It seems that being away from his family, who remained in London, has become too much for the 41-year-old. And as several sources indicate, including The GlobeThiago Silva has already played his last match with Fluminense. It was Sunday, in the Cup, with a defeat against Vasco.

It remains to be seen what tomorrow will bring for “O Monstro”. Retirement? Possible. Thiago Silva, however, left the door open to a return to the selection for the World Cup, he who had retired internationally in 2022. “I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t in my plans. But I didn’t talk about a possible return with Carlo (Ancelotti, the new Brazilian coach, Editor’s note). (…) He knows that he can count on me and what I can bring. I am at his disposal“, he recently told France Football . And to continue: “Can you imagine if I end my career with a world champion title? This would be the absolute dream and the perfect time to quit».

Priority to Europe

In recent weeks there has been talk of a potential return to AC Milan. According to Fabrizio Romano, the prospect of returning to Europe would be a priority for Thiago Silva, 41, in order to give himself the best chance of competing in the World Cup. He returned to Fluminense, the club of his debut, in 2024, after spending three seasons at Milan, eight at PSG and four at Chelsea, where he finally won the Champions League in 2021, under the orders of Thomas Tuchel, his coach in Paris.
