Gael Monfils with a new record

It has recently been confirmed: Gael Monfils has broken the magical barrier of 1000 weeks in the top 100. The now 39-year-old Frenchman is now joining an exclusive club that previously only included Andre Agassi, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. The fact that a player with a maximum of average ambition like Monfils stayed at the top for so long with his creative, risky style makes this achievement all the more remarkable.

From teen phenomenon to audience favorite

Monfils stormed onto the tour in 2004 as a 17-year-old and immediately impressed with his athleticism, unpredictable performances and his unmistakable humor. While others struggled in training and got annoyed on the pitch, Monfils always took the light-footed, spectacular route. His style even took him to number six in the world rankings in 2016 and earned him cult status worldwide.

Still motivated at 39

At 39 years old, Monfils is currently ranked 68th in the world and shows that his fire is far from extinguished. Even injuries, fluctuations in form or setbacks could permanently knock him out of the top 100. His stamina is just as impressive as his legendary jumps at the net or his humorous training points with his wife Elina Svitolina.

Farewell tour with announcement

Monfils has announced that 2026 will be his last season. The public’s expectations are correspondingly high, especially when it comes to entertainment value. Anyone who knows Monfils knows: the Frenchman will not make a quiet exit. Rather, the audience is likely to experience a tour full of emotions and one or two magic balls.
