Tennis Courts Reopen: New Racket Center, Ouistreham

In Ouistreham (Calvados), the complete redevelopment of the indoor tennis courts and extension, transformed into a racket center, began in January 2025, a project whose cost is estimated at nearly 7 million euros.

A new, sportier floor

After a complete recovery of insulation, ventilation, plumbing, lighting, flooring, the room which welcomes tennis and badminton players reopened in mid-November 2025. As before, three courts are available, including one partly dedicated to badminton, with specific lighting recommended by the federation of this sport. “The ground,” explains Luc Jammet, sports assistant, “is a sports resin, a little abrasive. »

Still work

“It’s a request from the players,” continues Astrid Rochas, head of technical services. “The surface is a little rough, so slower. But over time, it will wear out a little, become less rough.”

The toilets, changing rooms and clubhouse are still under construction. “The urgency”, comments Luc Jammet, “was to open access to the rooms for the winter. In the immediate future, mobile toilets are planned outside for the players.”

Reservations, as in the past, are made online, with delivery of a code which allows access to the courts. “Players must have clean shoes to move around the courts, so as not to damage the surface. In the absence of changing rooms, they change shoes at the entrance. When the changing rooms are ready, we plan to set up a walking-forward type circuit, going from dirty to clean.”

The table tennis room under construction

The overall project, which involves an expansion, is continuing. The space will be used for table tennis, with eight competition tables. “It will be worthy of welcoming a club aiming for Nationale 2,” notes Luc Jammet. In fact, an additional 700 m² will be created. In total, with the stands, the future clubhouse, upstairs, the toilets, changing rooms and circulation areas, the surface area of the racket center will be increased by 1,500 m².

As for the clubhouse, with its very large bow window, it will allow, on the tennis side, better visibility on the courts. It will open directly onto the stands, on the table tennis side.

The extension project should be completed by July-August 2026, with access for table tennis players from next fall.

Since the reopening, reservations have been numerous and demonstrate the pleasure of players in finding modernized and comfortable equipment.

Table tennis will be installed in a dedicated extension, with eight boxes of 12x6 meters each. Great comfort for players. The stands will be accessible via the club house.

“Fun to play”

Jérôme and Elliot, two indoor tennis regulars, confirm this: “The room has been very well renovated, it had become necessary. Today, no more infiltration when it rains. The space has good sound and thermal insulation, the courts are new, pleasant to play on, even if at first, we find the surface a little slow, but we will get used to it. It’s just perfect.”
