While the Young Boys lost 6-2 to the Grasshoppers, FC Basel won 2-1 in Lucerne. Lugano prevails against FCZ thanks to a last-minute goal.

It was a wild game that the spectators saw on Wednesday evening in Wankdorf. Eight goals were scored in the game between the Young Boys and GC – YB goalie Marvin Keller was defeated six times.

There had already been a hail of goals in the first leg at the end of October. In Zurich, the two clubs played a 3-3 draw in Letzigrund. Now GC, which is currently in the bottom third of the table, managed to win in a turbulent game.

After a high-scoring first half in which GC gained a 3-1 lead, Gerardo Seoane’s team started the second 45 minutes well. Seoane’s YB became significantly stronger and scored the next goal in the 60th minute thanks to Chris Bedia, before Marvin Keller even parried a penalty from Lovro Zvonarek.

But the momentum still didn’t tip over to the Bernese side. Instead, they literally fell apart in the last 15 minutes. Luke Plange made it 4:2 – YB player Rayan Raveloson was sent off because of an unsuccessful attempt to prevent the goal.

As a result, the 23-year-old Englishman, who had already scored before the break, scored twice more to make the final score 6-2.

Lucerne – Basel 1:2
In Lucerne, both the hosts and the visiting FC Basel urgently needed a win. The Basel team were ultimately able to secure three points.

After a goalless first half, in which both teams acted offensively and Xherdan Shaqiri missed the third penalty in a row, Basel finally took the lead thanks to Moritz Broschinski (49th).

But this didn’t last long, just five minutes later Julian von Moos equalized for Lucerne. The second Basel penalty, no longer scored by Shaqiri but by Koba Koindredi, made it 2-1 for FCB. It stayed that way, thanks to the victory the Basel team moved up to 3rd place in the table.
