If you take jokes as a seismograph for a politician’s popularity, Federal President Karin Keller-Sutter, Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis and Media Minister Albert Rösti are at the top. At least this is what the book “Swiss Politics for Laughing” (Helvetia Verlag, Bern) by long-time Blick and persoenlich.com television critic René Hildbrand shows, in which he presents 444 current politician jokes.
The 75-year-old journalist, who was also editor-in-chief of the TV magazine TV Star, is considered a passionate collector of jokes and sayings. He recently published a book with Roger Federer jokes. For his latest book, says Hildbrand, he only used sayings that didn’t come from the bottom drawer.
Remarkable: The legendary telephone conversation with US President Trump already plays a role in the Keller-Sutter jokes. It also shows that former joke stars like Christoph Blocher or Adolf Ogi play a much smaller role today than they did a few years ago. Hildbrand’s conclusion: Good politicians are people who live far away. (ma)
