– Over the years, my focus has been on developing ideas and visions and making them marketable in order to realize them. Building bridges between idea and implementation, as well as between actors in projects, to create a clear path from vision to reality is what I am doing. To now be able to do it for a sport I’m really passionate about is fantastically exciting, says Mats Olofsson.
The Swedish Ski Federation will, in close cooperation with the freeride scene, develop sporting and financial structures that support the entire chain – from young skiers to clubs and organizers. The goal is to create natural transitions between play and competition, local initiatives, national level and international success. Swedish freeride has a unique position right now, and the association wants to be an active part in further developing it.
– With a first WC in 2026 and a potential Olympics in 2030 on the horizon, it is time to take advantage of the Swedish free skating wonder and give all our fantastic skaters and the community the support they need to be able to develop and continue to be at the absolute forefront of the sport in the future as well. Mats has the right background, skills and network to lead the association’s work in that direction, says sports director Stefan Karlsson.
Mats takes up the position immediately and is ready to shoulder the assignment.
– I’ve actually already made a false start. I see it as extremely important to listen to what the riders, organizers and associations need. The only way we can build this is over time and together. I feel that there is an enormous desire to jointly carry Swedish freeride into the future, which the first contacts I have made really confirm, concludes Mats Olofsson.
