SAINT PAUL – The Swedish hockey players won in their second match in the A-group of the WC under-20 players. After the initial triumph 3:2 over Slovakia, they won on Sunday in St. Paul over the Swiss 4:2.
The favorite fought for victory, losing 1:2 after two periods, but turned the score around with three goals in the final act. Striker Lucas Pettersson secured the win for the favorite with two goals.
The Swiss could have taken the lead right away, but Leon Muggli hit the post. At 0:53, on the other hand, the Swedes rejoiced thanks to Eric Nilson’s goal. In the 15th minute, Beni Waidacher equalized with a shot through the screen, and 98 seconds before the end of the second period, Lars Steiner turned the situation around with a shot from the right circle.
After 57 seconds of the final action, Viggo Björck equalized a second after the end of the power play and at 46:28, Pettersson secured the win for the favorite with a shot from the right circle. In the 49th minute, Jamiro Reber could have equalized, but he headed into the post. The result was sealed 47 seconds before the end with a power play into an empty Pettersson goal.
The Swedes have six points, the same as the leaders the Americans, but the hosts have a better score. The Slovaks are currently third with three points, the Swiss are in fourth place without a point, ahead of Germany.
