The German badminton champion from Dortelweil recently celebrated two 7-0 victories. The tough away games against the co-favorites are coming up soon.
There were two clear victories for SV Fun-Ball Dortelweil on the fourth and fifth matchdays of the Badminton Bundesliga. On the home game day, SC Union Lüdinghausen was sent home 7-0, before 1. BV Mülheim was also defeated with this result the next day. The record with the German champions is flawless. Captain Kai Schäfer’s team has won all five games so far with a score of 7:0, giving them a score of 35:0 and 15 out of 15 possible points. The fun ballers thus underlined their renewed ambitions for the Final Four in April 2026.
In the game against Lüdinghausen, the 100 spectators were able to enjoy the appearance of world number eight Christo Popov for the first time this season. He won for the Wetterauers together with Victor Svendsen in the first doubles in three sets and also in the first men’s singles. His counterpart Julien Carraggi (world number 55) played a strong game in the singles and demanded everything from Popov. In the second men’s doubles, 19-year-old Dortmund young player Danial Marzuan – together with the experienced Alex Dunn – played in the first league for the first time this season. The Fun Ball duo ultimately won confidently in four sets.
The women’s doubles with Julie Macpherson and Debora Jille, the women’s singles with Yvonne Li and the mixed doubles with Alex Dunn/Julie Macpherson all went smoothly in three rounds each. The seventh point to the clear final score was taken by Victor Sevendsen, who defeated his opponent in four sets with a strong fighting and playful performance.
On Sunday it was against the bottom of the table from Mülheim. All matches went safely in three sets to the Wetterauers, who had already recorded a 7-0 win after just over 1.5 hours. Captain Schäfer summarized the first half of the season so far as follows: “We have gained a small lead over the co-favorites Bischmisheim and Wipperfeld. We have to play against both teams away on December 20th/21st. In any case, we want to start the new year as league leaders.”
