The ax has fallen for stade Toulouse, and the reigning French champion club should recover without difficulty. The French rugby disciplinary and regulatory commission sanctioned the Rouge et Noir with a withdrawal of four points, including two firm points, in the ranking of the current Top 14 season, for having violated the rules in the context of the transfer of Melvyn Jaminet from perpignan to Toulouse in 2022, announced the National Rugby League (LNR), Monday December 15. Until then first in the French championship, the Toulouse club, which was also fined 45,000 euros (including 15,000 suspended),is now tied with the Pau Section, the new leader.
“The disciplinary council concluded that the elements of the file demonstrated that the financial flows (…) aimed at organizing a tour of the Stade Toulouse in French Polynesia had in reality served in particular to settle the financial consequences of the departure of Melvyn Jaminet from [Perpignan]writes the LNR in a press release. And that this arrangement was part of a legal and financial disguise aimed at diverting funding from its true purpose.»
But while it could have feared a range of sanctions going as far as a ban from the final stages, or even a demotion to Pro D2, the Haut-Garonne club obtained a relatively lenient sanction.
