Sport for Development: CONADE & CEDEM Initiative

Mexico City.- One of the fundamental pillars of the National Commission of Physical Culture and Sports (CONADE), under the direction of Rommel Pacheco Marrufo, has been to reinforce the commitment to promoting sport and physical activation as an engine of change and ally in the comprehensive development of people.

Under the slogan “sport transforms lives”, School and Municipal Sports Centers (CEDEM), a line of action of CONADE, has been an important ally in the task of bringing both sport and physical activation to different areas of both Mexico City and the Mexican Republic, covering various sectors of the population.

Among the tasks carried out during 2025 are sports clinics in the disciplines of soccer, ultimate frisbee, calisthenics, tochito, athletics, baseball, baseball 5, handball, basketball and rugby, reaching a population of more than 2 thousand (2,327) people, including men and women.

As a follow-up, basketball and soccer tournaments were held in the municipalities of Chimalhuacán, Amecameca and Valle de Chalco in the State of Mexico, where 340 people participated, seeking to distance the population from risky behaviors and pay attention to the causes.

In addition to deliveries of sports equipment, motivational talks with an impact on around 1,400 people, health conferences, programs for the reactivation of sports spaces, among others, with an impact on girls and boys, adolescents, young people, older adults and promoters, which have united members of the Youth Building the Future program, which has linked 84 young people from 14 states and 33 young people in CONADE.

The above gives continuity to the vision that general director Rommel Pacheco has maintained of seeing sport not as an expense, but as an investment and making it an accessible, inclusive good of transformation and personal and social improvement.

CEDEM and its owner Karla Camacho Garciglia have strengthened various initiatives thanks to the synergy with educational institutions such as the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), as well as with the Secretariat of Public Security, Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), the National System for the Comprehensive Development of the Family (SNDIF), National Water Commission (CONAGUA), Mayors in CDMX, state and municipal governments, Federations, Sports Institutes, to name a few.

Also noteworthy is the participation in massive events such as “The Festival for the Rights of Girls, Boys, Adolescents”, with more than 5 thousand people in attendance, “Golden Olympics” with approximately 1,600 older adults who registered to compete in cachibol, swimming and athletics tournaments, and finally in the “1st edition of the DIFEM Labor Sports Games” where 1,700 workers participated in soccer and basketball sports activities.

Likewise, special emphasis was placed on actions such as Zones of Peace and Against Addictions, which contribute to the promotion of peace, healthy coexistence, social integration and the well-being of the community through sports, strengthening values and teamwork with a safe and healthy environment as part of the National Strategy for Attention to Causes led by President Claudia Sheinbaum.
With this year’s optimal results, by 2026 social sport will continue as a priority task, considering sport as a generator of a climate of tolerance and well-being for development.
