Small Ski Resorts: No Lift Lines

Would you like to enjoy skiing, but are discouraged by overcrowded resorts, endless queues and often exorbitant prices in famous resorts? All over our country, you will find a number of more intimate places that offer relaxing slopes, pleasant facilities and more affordable prices for ski passes. We bring you tips for some of them (up-to-date information on the operation of individual campuses can be found on their websites).

Chotouň – Jílové

About twenty kilometers outside of Prague, you will find the Chotouň ski area, which is a great place if you want to give your children their first skiing experience. Peace and quiet reign here, there are two lifts, equipment rental and service, a children’s park with a conveyor belt and a ski school. You can have refreshments in a kiosk with a seating area, and there is also evening skiing on the illuminated slopes. You can park for free right next to the slope.

Aldrov – Vítkovice in the Giant Mountains

You can enjoy a pleasant family skiing trip in the area with a total of four wide blue and red slopes (with a total length of 3200 meters) and a small snow park located near Špindlerův Mlýn. But it is not nearly as busy and crowded. You will be taken up the hill by a cable car or the Presidential Express cable car. There is a children’s lift and a playground, a ski school and a rental office. Parking is free here.

Dolní Dvůr – Luisa’s valley

You will find a small and quiet area between the villages of Strážné and Dolní Dvůr in Krkonoší and you can look forward to skiing without queues. There are two ski lifts and two slopes of light and medium difficulty, and there is a ski and snowboard school for children and beginners. You can warm up in the Liberecká bouda restaurant or have something good in the fast food kiosk. If you arrive without skis, you can rent them out and park your car at the slopes for free.

Filip – Smržovka

Morel v Jizera Mountains is a great place for those looking for a quieter atmosphere and slower downhill runs. Here you will find two ski lifts, a half-kilometer slope, a small snow park, equipment rental and service, and a ski school for children and adults. Refreshments are also available in the area, and on selected days you can enjoy evening skiing. Parking is free.

Karlov – Myšák

The Myšák ski area (part of the Karlov pod Pradědem Ski Arena) is a popular place for families with children. In the heart Jeseníky you will find a four-seater cable car with a covered bubble, one blue and two red slopes with a total length of almost two and a half kilometers. Of course, there is a rental and service right next to the cable car and a ski school. For the little ones, there is a children’s ski park with a moving carpet. You can relax in the ski bar with a terrace or in the bistro, they have free parking here.

Fajtův kopec – Velké Meziříčí

The small ski area in Vysočina is an excellent choice for one-day skiing. It offers comfortable facilities for families with children, a total of three downhill slopes and a children’s lift. You can use the rental office, equipment service or individual lessons skiing and snowboarding. Parking at the complex is free. You can enjoy a snack, lunch or a hot drink to warm up in the Alpine-style ski bar or the newly renovated restaurant.

Kubova Huť

Small, but all the more authentic Šumava center with a family atmosphere, it offers three slopes, two for more advanced skiers and one for beginners and children, a ski school with a children’s lift and a snow park for adventurers. You can rent skis or snowboards, and refreshments are available in one of the nearby restaurants. There are two parking lots near the complex.

Parish hill

A slope with a slight gradient, ideal for children and moderately advanced skiers who mainly want to have fun and enjoy easy skiing, can be found in Rokytnica in the Orlické Mountains. The track is less than 400 meters long, a lift will take you up (the cross-country trails that lead along the ridge begin at the upper station Eagle Mountains). You can enroll children (and yourself) in a ski and snowboard school, there is a rental office and a snow park with obstacles. You can also look forward to evening skiing.
