ÚSTÍ NAD LABEM – Former national team coach Vladimír Růžička will once again coach the hockey players of Ústí nad Labem.
Slovan is currently hopelessly last in the second league, after the 22nd round it has only six points in the table of the West group and loses eight points to the penultimate Kadaň. Severočesi announced the engagement of the 62-year-old coach, who worked with the club as a consultant, on their website.
“By engaging Vladimír Růžička, we want to make it clear that we are still not giving up on the declared sports goal. This means saving the second league membership,” said Slovan’s manager Jaroslav Linet, who until now led the team with club legend Jan Čaloun. Both will continue with the team as Ružiček’s assistants.
The Olympic champion from Nagano and world champion from Prague 1985, who as a coach twice led the national team to triumph at the world championship, worked briefly in Ústí nad Labem at the beginning of the 2023/24 season. After two matches, however, he accepted Slovan Bratislava’s offer and left for Slovakia.
Most recently, Ružička worked in the second league Most, which he led last season until last November. The renewed premiere at the Ústí substitute awaits Ružička on Wednesday, when Slovan welcomes Kralupy nad Vltavou.
