Gerald Sibon praises the development of Maas Willemsen at sc Heerenveen. The 22-year-old defender came over on a free transfer from De Graafschap last summer and has now become an indispensable part of the Frisian defense.
“It has developed enormously,” says Sibon about Willemsen Broadcaster Abe of the Leeuwarder Courant. “He is good, stable, doesn’t do anything crazy and has all the physical conditions.” The former Heerenveen striker has only one doubt. “I don’t know if he is very fast, but he can solve that reasonably well. You usually do that at the front, by choosing a good position and seeing things coming.”
The 1.90 meter tall Willemsen, who is also a philosophy student, has played thirteen matches in the Eredivisie so far. “I initially thought it was ideal with Joris van Overeem at the back, but it is also possible with Sam Kersten. The weaknesses were also somewhat exposed with Van Overeem at the back. You saw that against Telstar, who then played with the long ball through Van Overeem. Then you become vulnerable. That has of course been solved with Kersten,” Sibon concludes.
