Latvian tennis player Anastasija Sevastova will compete in the qualification at the first “Grand Slam” competition of the year in Australia, according to the organizers of the competition.
Sevastova, who is ranked 188th in the WTA, will need to overcome three qualifying rounds to reach the main tournament.
Last season, she competed in the US Open main tournament with a special ranking. Sevastova last competed in the “Grand Slam” qualification in 2016, when, overcoming three rounds, she entered the main tournament of the Australian Open Championship.
It has already been reported that Latvian athletes Aļona Ostapenko and Darja Semenistaja will compete in the main tournament. Ostapenko is ranked 23rd in the world, and Semenistaya is 101st, which was enough for Semenistaya to compete in the “Grand Slam” tournament for the first time in her career without qualification.
The main tournament of the season’s first “Grand Slam” competition on hard courts will be held from January 12 to February 1.
