Between tensions, twists and turns, the Caribbean Series will move its headquarters for the 2026 edition. The championship, which was supposed to be played in Caracas, Venezuela, between February 1 and 7, will now be hosted by the home of the Charros de Jalisco: Guadalajara.
This, after the agreement reached by the Caribbean Professional Baseball Confederation, after the refusal of the leagues of Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Mexico, to send their respective champions to Venezuela alleging “situations beyond their control” and “various logistical factors, beyond the control of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League.”
Although the Caribbean Professional Baseball Confederation had received the reiteration of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League days ago, guaranteeing the conditions for the tournament in Caracas, the organization had to evaluate an alternative venue to organize the traditional championship, which will move to the Pan American stadium in Guadalajara.
The participation of the Venezuelan delegation is still in doubt. Even though the invitation is on the table, the Venezuelan league has not yet issued a statement on what will happen to its champion this season.
CNN contacted the league to find out their position regarding the withdrawal of the venue and their attendance at the tournament now that it will be played in Mexico, but the organization assured that they still do not have an official position on the situation.
If Venezuela decides not to attend the Caribbean Series, the president of the Mexican Pacific League, Salvador Escobar, assured that Mexico will send two delegations (champion and runner-up) to fill the vacancy left by the South American team in the championship. The Panamanian delegation will also join the tournament.
Guadalajara hosted the Caribbean Series in 2018 and this will be the eighteenth time that Mexico will host the tournament.
