Scots Raid Prague: Sparta Expands for European Match

Already at the end of last week, Aberdeen’s social media posted: “Another massive away run is coming up. Tickets for away games against Sparta, Celtic, Hibernian and Falkirk are all sold out.”

Sparta then informed on Monday afternoon: “Due to the exceptionally high number of visiting fans who are going to Prague, the club has proceeded to expand the guest sector. This step is the result of a joint discussion between representatives of both clubs (including security managers and SLOs) and representatives of the security forces of both countries.”

Specifically, it concerns sectors A20 and A21 right next to the guests’ boiler and they are structurally separated from the sectors intended for supporters of Prague.

“The aim of this measure is to ensure the safest and at the same time the most comfortable course of the match for home and visiting fans,” adds Sparta.

For both teams, it will be the final sixth duel of the main phase of the Conference League. But while Sparta has 10 points on its account and is fighting for the elite eight, i.e. a direct promotion to the round of 16, Aberdeen has almost nothing to do with the position.

From the previous five matches, the traditional Scottish club has not won even once, collected only two points and has no chance of slipping into the spring elimination phase. But Sparta certainly cannot underestimate anything. However, in the Scottish league, Aberdeen is sixth and counting a series of seven duels without defeat.

How Letná will be filled remains to be seen. For several weeks in advance, there were estimates that in view of the opponent, the pre-Christmas date and possible worse weather may not be sold out. As of early Monday evening, there were around 3,200 tickets left on Sparta’s website.

The club also warns its supporters that UEFA claims a certain amount of tickets for itself and its partners, for Letné it is specifically part of sector D23. “Permanent members who are affected by this change will be contacted by the club and will be able to purchase a ticket with a discount to another sector,” assure the people of Prague.
