SC Itzehoe Badminton: 6-2 Victory Over Glücksburg

With a somewhat surprising 6-2 win against TSV Glücksburg 09 II, the SCI first team defended second place in the North Regional League. The start of the encounter wasn’t particularly promising. The Störstäder team, who had to do without several regular players, quickly fell behind 0-2. Kimberley Harms and Lea Masorsky, who usually serve on the SCI third team, showed a courageous performance in the women’s doubles, but could not avoid defeat. Meanwhile, Dirk Kaack and Malte Blohm had no chance at all in the first men’s doubles.

The first key game of the evening was the second men’s doubles. Here Frank Kossiski, who came into the team for the injured Paul Schuldt, played alongside Ole Beyer. In a thoroughly exciting match, the SCI duo, with strong nerves, took the important first point with 23:21 in the deciding set.

The Itzehoers then showed excellent performances in the individual disciplines. Sonja Soltwisch won the women’s singles confidently after an even first set. Ole Beyer and Malte Blohm were in no way inferior and won their men’s singles against strong opponents in two sets. The fifth point for the early victory was taken by team captain Dirk Kaack, who fought back after being 12:18 behind and, driven by the loud audience, won with 23:21 and 21:18. The No less celebrated 6:2 final score was achieved by the Itzehoer Mixed Soltwisch/Kossiski in three sets. With the win, the SCI ended the first half of the season with 10:4 points and is still in second place in the North Regional League.

There was nothing to gain for the SCI’s second team in the duel with the newly crowned autumn champions Barmstedter MTV.

The Störstädters were only able to keep up in the women’s doubles, which Ines Weidt and Mareike Winkler lost in three exciting sets after a strong fight. Andreas Bruns from the SCI’s third team also performed admirably, having slipped into the team at short notice to replace Carsten Grelck, who was ill. Bruns played particularly well against former Itzehoer Marcel Muchaier in the first set and only narrowly lost 17:21. In the end, he was just as powerless as his teammates against the strong Barmstedt team, which impressively underpinned their title ambitions.

The second team from Itzehoer was challenged again the next day at SG Stockelsdorf/Schwartau. There, team captain Heiko Schulz in the second men’s singles as well as the mixed doubles Weidt/Mantey were particularly impressive. However, both games were lost in the deciding set, so this game also clearly went to the hosts with a score of 0:8. A tough weekend for the Störstädters, who are now three points behind a non-relegation place in the Regional League South.

The Christmas break now begins for the Itzehoer teams before the next double home game day takes place in Wellenkamp in the new year on January 17th.
