Sävehof: New Year’s League Celebration

IK Sävehof celebrates the New Year as league leader when 2025 becomes 2026. Monday evening’s derby against Kungälv’s HK ended 35–21 in yellow and black’s favour, where a clear basis for the big victory was already established in the first half.

The last task of the year for Sävehof in the Women’s Handball League was Monday evening’s away match against Kungälv. After five even minutes in Mimershallen, with 4-4 on the scoreboard, Sävehof started to pull away. No less than five straight goals then established an early advantage that would prove to be enough all the way.

Even when head coach Andreas Wallin chose to make changes, the payoff continued to be good. The players who got to start the night from the bench didn’t hesitate when they got the chance and Sävehof had eleven different scorers in the first half which ended 19-10.

Into the second half, Sävehof kept the initiative. The defensive game together with goalkeeper Wilma Saul worked well and going forward it was mainly Elín Klara Thorkelsdóttir who thundered forward with increased power after the break. The Icelandic nine-meter player was particularly effective when she struck with three goals in a row in one of several stages where the yellow-black advantage grew stronger.

The final margin of victory stopped at 14 balls when Sävehof won the derby against Kungälv with 35–21. The team will thus be able to celebrate the New Year as league leaders with at least two points down to second in the table.

Just over a week remains until the next match when Aranäs will face the opposition on Wednesday 7 January in what will be the first task for 2026.
