IK Sävehof defeated VästeråsIrsta HF in the last home match before the EC break. The final score was 34–31.
According to tradition, Boxing Day offered double matches in Partille Arena. First up was the men’s team’s meeting with VästeråsIrsta where, apart from ties at 7–7 and 8–8, Sävehof was always one step ahead of their opponents.
In connection with the first numerical superiority of the afternoon, Axel Davidsson received the trust from Linus Ekman to enter the pitch. The young energy spreader thus got playing time in Sävehof’s men’s team for the first time.
– He is a kamikaze every game, fights hard and is the team captain in S-hof which is going well, then you deserve to get the chance. Then it was a shame that he missed two opportunities, but it is clear that he will get the chance. Axel is an important cog in our organization in terms of what he stands for, what he brings down to S-hof and what he contributes in the stands, commented Sävehof’s head coach.
In connection with the half-time signal, the jumbotron in Partille Arena showed that the score was 16–14 in favor of yellow and black. The margin should have been bigger, if we ask Ekman.
– I’m very happy with the first half, it was little things that meant we didn’t really pull away from them. I felt that maybe we even had it in us to be able to have the lead by six or seven goals.
On a couple of occasions after the break, Sävehof took the biggest lead from the first half. The lead had then grown to four balls, but with barely ten minutes left on the clock, the difference was down to just the odd goal.
Sävehof then found the net at the right times to avoid ending up tied and the two points were secured with the numbers 34-31.
– At times I think we played better than what was on the board, especially in the first half where we were clearly better. However, they fought well and we made a few too simple mistakes to be able to pull away and decide the match.
Only one game remains before the championship break, which runs until the beginning of February. On Tuesday, the team travels south to meet Ystads IF.
– We are charged and hungry for revenge at Ystad. We want to get revenge on ourselves in terms of the home game against them, so it will be fun, said Ekman as he looked ahead.
