O São Paulo agreed to hire goalkeeper Carlos Coronel, who was at the New York Red Bulls, from the USA, and defends the national team Paraguay.
The 28-year-old archer is at the end of his contract with the North American club (until December 31) and will sign definitively with Tricolor do Morumbis, according to the ESPN. A meeting this Wednesday (24) sealed the deal.
Carlos Coronel will arrive at São Paulo to be Rafael’s alternative in the tricolor goal. The player had offers from Saudi Arabia and his own MLSbut the project presented by the São Paulo team convinced him to return to Brazil. The transfer will have no costs, just gloves and salary.
The investigation of the ESPN indicates that other proposals were even better financially than Tricolor’s, but, according to a source, “the dream of wearing the São Paulo shirt” weighed heavily.
Listed to compete in the World cup 2026 for Paraguay, Carlos Coronel was born in Brazil, in Corumbá, Mato Grosso do Sul. At 1.92m, he began his career at Red Bull Brasil, but left the country very early, at the age of 18, to play for Liefering on loan from Red Bull Bragantinogaining good minutes. After ‘roaming’ around other clubs, he signed for New York in 2021, where he became an idol of the team.
