The weather is hot in Liverpool. While the club is still mired in an endless sporting crisis, Mohamed Salah added fuel to the fire after the draw conceded to Leeds (3-3) on Saturday evening by publicly attacking its management and its coach Arne Slot.
Two days after these shocking statements, it seems that the Reds board has chosen to respond by sanctioning its star. Indeed, according to information from RMC Sport, the 33-year-old striker should not appear in the group selected by Slot for the Champions League match against Inter Milan, scheduled for this Tuesday at Guiseppe-Meazza (9 p.m.). The decision would have been made by the Dutch technician.
“No more relationships” with Arne Slot
Placed on the bench during Liverpool’s last three outings, Salah is having a hard time losing his starting status. “I have the impression that the club has thrown me out to pasture,” he said in the mixed zone on Saturday, believing that the team in which he has been playing since 2017 has “let him down”.
“I said many times before that I had a good relationship with the coach, and all of a sudden we have no relationship. I don’t know why, but it seems to me, from what I see, that someone doesn’t want me in the club,” said the fourth in the last Ballon d’Or, who didn’t even come on as a substitute against Leeds.
Liverpool’s best player during the title season in 2024-2025, Salah extended his lease on the banks of the Mersey until 2027 last April despite incredible offers from Saudi Arabia. “I received a lot of promises this summer, and now I’ve been on the bench for three games, so I can’t say they kept their promises,” said the right winger. The latter also considers that “someone wanted [lui] place all the responsibility on them,” without mentioning any names.
Towards a departure for the winter transfer window?
During this flamethrower media outing, the Egyptian striker cast doubt on his future, meeting Reds supporters for the match against Brighton next Saturday, implying that it could be his last appearance with Liverpool. “I will be at Anfield to say goodbye to the supporters (…), before going to the African Cup of Nations (with Egypt), because I don’t know what will happen when I get there,” he said.
Will we see Salah again playing in the red jersey with which he wrote many pages of his history? Nothing is less certain now.
