A few hours after PSG’s victory, bad news nevertheless fell about Matvey Safonov, who suffered a broken hand.
In his medical press release, the reigning European champion said that a new update would be made in 4 to 5 weeks to find out the progress of his 26-year-old goalkeeper’s recovery. But in Russia, we seem much more optimistic, as doctor Nikita Karlitsky told MatchTV. “This type of injury heals very well, especially since it is an arm injury. So I strongly doubt that it will take Matvey Safonov more than three weeks to recover” indicated the Russian specialist before continuing.
A not-so-serious injury for Safonov?
“After four weeks he will be able to play without any restrictions. Sometimes you can give up, and if it’s just a small tear, you don’t have to wait for it to heal.”. Matvey Safonov could therefore make his return for the reception in Lille or the trip to Sporting Portugal in the middle of January. It remains to be seen how Luis Enrique and the PSG medical staff will manage this return from injury because in the meantime, Lucas Chevalier, who has struggled to achieve unanimous support since his arrival in the capital, will have the opportunity to gain playing time with two matches against Paris FC (in Ligue 1 and in the Coupe de France) as well as with the Champions Trophy against Olympique de Marseille. The former Lille goalkeeper should not be missed if he does not want to be immediately put back under pressure when his Russian competitor returns from injury.
