Voted best player in the Middle East at the Globe Soccer Awards ceremony in Dubai on Sunday, Cristiano Ronaldo is still hungry for goals.
Cristiano Ronaldo never doubts, and even less about the symbolic bar of 1,000 career goals that he is certain to reach barring injuries. On Sunday evening, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner was crowned best player in the Middle East at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai. The center forward of Portugal and Al-Nassr, who presented the Global Sports Award to Novak Djokovic, had before that given a speech on stage speaking of this famous objective, widely assumed for months, of 1,000 goals to be scored in his career.
“I’m sure I will reach it, if there are no injuries, Insha’Allah”
“No matter where I play, in the Middle East or in Europe, I always want to win trophies and reach the number that you all know.” An allusion to the 1,000 goal mark, therefore, for Cristiano Ronaldo who said he was “sure” of reaching it: “I’m sure I will reach it, if there are no injuries, Insha’Allah”. The five-time Ballon d’Or has to date totaled 956 career goals, the most recent of which was scored on Saturday, with a double against Al-Okhdood in the Saudi Pro League (3-0).
This season, Ronaldo has already scored 13 times with his Saudi club Al-Nassr. “CR7” will try to continue its momentum on Tuesday, with a trip to the Al-Ettifaq field (6:30 p.m.). After ten days, Al-Nassr occupies the top of the ranking, with 30 points and 10 wins in as many matches played. Never champion of Saudi Arabia since his arrival in 2023, Cristiano Ronaldo certainly has the ambition to be one from this season while he is, as a reminder, linked to Al-Nassr until 2027 after his extension last summer. Next summer will mark another challenge, namely that of leading Portugal to glory at the 2026 World Cup, scheduled for June 11 to July 19, 2026 alongside the United States, Canada and Mexico.
