The 80 Rolex Sydney Hobart continues to have a Spanish flavor, demonstrating the talent of Spanish sailors. On this occasion the victory was achieved by Pablo Arrarte, aboard the Comanche, winner in real time, and Pablo Torrado with the VO70 Celestial, winner of the Division. … 0.
The victory had added value with the debut of Pablo Torrado. The Galician, with a solid international career in TP52, Maxi and Farr 40, made his debut at the Rolex Sydney Hobart as part of the crew of the boat skippered by Sam Haynes, successfully completing the 628 nautical miles between Sydney and Hobart.
The Celestial demonstrated remarkable consistency throughout the course, precisely managing the complex conditions of the Tasman Sea, especially during the first 48 hours, marked by intense wind, rough seas and very demanding night navigation. This consistency allowed the VO70 to prevail over a high-level fleet and consolidate its position as one of the great protagonists of this edition.
The Spanish success did not stop there. Pablo Arrarte made history again by conquering the Line Honors, the victory in real time, aboard the Comanche, which crossed the finish line first in Hobart after an intense battle with the other maxis of the fleet. For Arrarte, this represents a new victory in a regatta that he has already won on several occasions, confirming his status as one of the great ocean specialists on the international scene.
In total, seven Spanish sailors took part in this 80th edition of the Rolex Sydney Hobart, consolidating the national presence in one of the toughest and most prestigious events on the world calendar. In addition to Torrado and Arrarte, Joan Vila and Antonio ‘Ñeti’ Cuervas-Mons also participated on board the Lucky, Carlos Hernández and Sinbad Quiroga on the LawConnect, and Pablo Santurde on the Mistral, which was forced to abandon.
