Freshly out of retirement, 44-year-old quarterback Philip Rivers will get the start for the Indianapolis Colts against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
He will play his first game in the NFL since 2020.
Earlier this week, Rivers signed a practice squad contract. He is now a starting quarterback in the NFL.
Rivers spent the last five years in Fairhope, Alabama, where he coached the St. Michael High School football team.
The American said he regularly watches the Los Angeles Chargers and Colts, the two teams he played for during his first 17 seasons, and was still watching them last weekend when quarterback Daniel Jones tore the Achilles tendon in his right foot in a 36-19 loss to the Jaguars in Jacksonville, ending his season.
Quite a challenge awaits the grandfather as Seattle presents the 2nd best defense in the Goodell circuit in terms of points allowed with 226 in 13 games.
The Seahawks have a record of 10 wins and three losses.
Rivers will try to stop the Colts’ losing streak at three.
Indianapolis (8-5) is in 3rd place in the American South division behind the Houston Texans (8-5) and the Jacksonville Jaguars (9-4).
