Rivers at Center: Football Experiment Continues

The Philip Rivers experiment is far from over in Indianapolis.

The team’s head coach, Shane Steichen, confirmed Monday that Rivers will remain the starting quarterback for their next game against the San Francisco 49ers.

The Colts lost 18-16 on Sunday to the Seahawks in Seattle in what marked Rivers’ return to play since the 2020 season. The 44-year-old quarterback had a modest game, completing 18 of 27 passes for 120 yards. Steichen, however, praised Rivers for his game management, an aspect that justified the decision to keep him in the lineup.

“Having not played for so long brings some unknowns, but to see the way he played to help us win in a hostile environment was very impressive,” Steichen said. His leadership and all the other things he brings to the team will benefit everyone. »

Another aspect pushing the team to keep Rivers as a starter concerns his health. There was concern within the organization about how Rivers’ body would react to the physical play of the NFL, having taken a lot of contact against Seattle. Rivers, however, reported to the Colts facilities on Monday saying he was doing well.
